(I always do a double take when I read your take-downs of Dr Kevin M Young's latest shockers. Because his name sounds so similar to Dr Keven DeYoung who is a very thoughtful and helpful author/podcaster.)
Funny. The entire time I was reading the first tweets, I was thinking about how so many folks attempt to project contemporary notions of homosexual relationships onto the ancients, and how these relationships were about power dynamics, and how they reinforced the rights of one person (a free Roman) to do whatever they wanted to another that did not have that’s status. It is always amazing how folks like Young abandon their dedication to Marxist power dynamics and the evil of them the minute it is not useful to them. A similar thing happens with Evolution. So many of these post-postmodern readings of ancient texts are just so bad. “Words don’t deserve that kind of abuse.”
I don’t know who Dr Kevin M Young is but I do know people like him. Who are they? They were the people who led the UMC into apostasy last week. They are the “bishops” and staff of the ELCA and TEC. Anne handles them the right way in this post: mock them and their vacuous theology of “narcissistic eisegesis.” Back in 2009 I thought we could “dialogue” with these people. I was wrong. Then I thought “ I need to be a good churchman” and go to their BS gatherings and synod assemblies. I was wrong. Now I see them as they are: vacuous narcissists who lead generally chaotic lives that vacillate between rage and their own frustrations that no one takes them serious anymore. I now spend my time around Christians and I go their gatherings. Anne I cannot thank you enough for your clarity and your writing.
At first I was really worried about what Dr. Kevin tweeted. I thought he was talking about adult males having sex with children. But then I realized he was actually talking about adult males having sex with 12 to 18 year old ADULTS! My relief is palpable.
It’s hard to believe that even sin can make us this stupid.

I have long called the likes of Young LibChurch. But maybe clown church is more appropriate.
