"Having turned away from all the wreckage of rebellion and empty lust, the Light of the Savior grips them completely. They are satisfied with the truth and beauty and goodness of God..." There is no better news for human ears to receive.
" They hobble to their chairs, poor and crushed in spirit, barely able to lift their heads, so humiliated by their sin and suffering that all they can apprehend is that small baby in the hollow of the stone manger-tomb. Their joy, then, at being accepted by God and given a place in his household is unalloyed. " 💕
One of the (very few) ways in which I seem to be getting a bit wiser with age is that when I watch some movie with a story line similar to "More", I can now discern just how the film's producers are manipulating my emotions. I can sense what it is they want me to believe about the ethics of the situation. It is always obvious who they want me to be rooting for (usually an adulterous couple). Historically, I have been much too influenced by the looks of the actors. If they are good looking people (and they always are, unless there is some special reason that requires them not to be) then I find my sympathy naturally moving towards them.
So, I do an experiment now, sometimes. I mentally substitute some unattractive person for the adulterer, and see if I am still so sympathetic to their "love." Of course, I never am.
Also apropos, and this will seem like a joke, but a saw on the internet the other day a rant against Hierarchical Polyamory. Apparently, that's the bad kind. Non-Hierarchical Polyamory is the good kind (lust among equals). But with Hierarchical Polyamory, some sex partners are prioritized above others. The internet teaches us so much.
