Just a note that Rod Dreher in his daily Substack Diary and also in his book _Living in Wonder_ explores the question of how AI, other transhumanist technologies, and even UFO phenomena may be vehicles for demonic spirits. I don’t know quite what to make of it all. But it is unsettling. By the way, “grok” is from Heinlein’s novel _Stranger in a Strange Land_. Which was a novel dear to many in our mid/late ‘60’s counterculture. To “grok” something meant to have a kind of deep perception and understanding of its spiritual meaning and platonic essence.
My outlook on AI is pretty bleak— either God will swat us back in some painful way like He did Babel (EMP?), or He will allow us to bring about our own destruction. 😬 Come, Lord Jesus!
Thanks for sharing this Nichole. That is some seriously insane and disturbing stuff. Reminds me of C.S. Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" as well as some of the writings of Paul Kingsnorth about AI and the demonic.

I shared some screenshots of this Rolling Stone article today on Facebook. Anne, you are absolutely right that we should just refer to AI as a demon.

That. Is. So. Scary.
