When every other Christian has rationalized divorce, why do we think this would not affect ministers? I personally wonder if this has more to do with Catholics and Protestants trying to get others to tempt and delegitimize those they dislike. This too seems a travesty ? I think Jesus would turn over the tables!
I do agree, the whole church needs to be focused on forgiving, Christ’s forgiveness of the repentant, and not making others confused or to stumble, because fear and run from the Prodigal father, instead of return home in repentance.

The language that they use has mostly to do with legality and litigation. In this way language of moral failings is dictated by liability. Having dealt with this with leadership in a restaurant setting, I sympathize a bit with the need for cautious language when talking about these things to the public. It all feels horrible and gross and you wish you could just come out and speak in a straightforward manner about things, but you simply can’t.
From what I understand, pastor Lawson did not engage in a physical relationship with a woman some four or five decade younger than he. However, it was an emotional entanglement that could be categorized as emotional adultery. He is, sadly, something of an exception in that, because other pastors have fallen into actual, physical adultery, and sometimes with more than one person. It is tragic.
In wartime, soldiers on the front lines aim to kill officers as I priority over enlisted men - take out the leaders, and the infantryman aren't sure what to do and can be defeated more easily. Such is the tactic of our arch enemy, Satan.
