This sort of thing seems to be the natural progression of liberal theological commitments. They begin by rejecting the authority of the text for the authority of "what we know now", and end by hating the text and the one of whom it speaks and speaks for. Bishop Spong comes to mind.

Wow. That excuse for a man has no fear of God.

Simply said, he is reading the text, rather than allowing it to read him. Should he permit the text to read him, it would kill him then make him alive; it would call him out of his tomb into Life.

I, too, will be “moving my abundant possessions around in a circle of chaos” today and I thank you for this perfect phrase which puts me in a better mood to begin.

"...Jesus needed to learn his lesson..." Oh my heavens that makes my stomach hurt. So many people in the pulpit sending their flock to hell. To sit at the feet of the Lord and Savior in rapt attention is one of the wisest acts in all of scripture. Come Jesus come!

And I seriously wonder, how could people who calls themself Christians really want to listen to a sermon like that?

Some day that man is going to stand or bow before King Jesus and think just how wrong he got things.

I've never heard anything so imbecilic from a clergyman in my life, not to mention it is willfully anti-God and obtuse besides!

I'm so confused why anyone would attend such a church? Does anyone know why (any articles or anyone written on this topic) of why churches like this or how churches like this still have people coming? (serious question)

Thanks for sharing this Anne.

"More to the point, this man should sit passively in church and never ever speak from the pulpit because all that he has said here is hot garbage, which is my special prophetic word for 2025:"

One hundred percent agree... sheesh. What a mess of reading his own worldview right into the Living Word.

I do wonder about the members of that man's congregation. Are they listening to what he is saying? This is another example of where your faith being based on a political ideology is more important than your faith being based on what the Bible clearly says.

Astounding! Esp. the part where he says he hopes "Luke put it on Jesus lips." If that statement is true--we might as well just forget the whole Bible. Let me also just say we attended an ELCA church on Christmas Eve where the main topic of the sermon was--wait for it--George Floyd, and how we should all remember that not everyone is as blessed as we are. And then we sang the Black National Anthem.

This poor man, and worse the people he is leading straight to the pit. I don’t even think that the Episcopal church and ELCA realize that they no longer believe that Jesus is God. I don’t think they are self aware enough. So heartbreaking.

Once again, thanks for your excellent writing pointing out sinful man’s penchant for an infinitely too low a

view of our almighty God!

ahh, the poor plight of the "progressive Christian", who really really wants his Jesus to be the King of the land and be able to write all the rules for everybody, but can't force his religion on anybody "cuz theocracy".
