Is striking to me that whether people scream to have a King- as in Israel’s past, or they march to have no King as in present- the heart of the issue is the same- man wanting his way and not God’s way, and ending in the same ruinous sinful result leading man further way from God in the end. Thank you, Anne for the great post as only you can write!
Thank you, Ann. I love your writing because at every opportunity you point the reader to Jesus. And to His Father. As I read this morning, "Nearer, My God, to Thee" is playing on Sirius XM. Both the hymn and your words accomplish this for my spirit on this Sunday morning.
So well said! Once again, such an overly overly overly inflated view of self and an infinitely low view of the Creator and Holder-together of all things leads to even more sin. Praise be to God for our Savior Jesus!
It is interesting GOD wanted to be king, but used Saul, David, Solomon, the people’s lust for an earthly king to bring His Son and His Son’s Kingship, Messiahship, kingdom to our world and hearts! Can you all explain this? Is there a theological word for it? 1 Samuel 8, 2 Samuel 7:7-15.
Secondly, independence is encouraged by those who tell one “find your identity and fulfillment in Christ” and then argue about what one should do. It’s so confusing, one withdraws and goes back to YHWH as leader because it’s hard to sort out the various isms, and ideas in the church. So we have over 151 attempts.
To be a leader simply means that you have to answer to a lot more people. But BAB isn’t writing from a cultural vacuum. The model of the non-denominational church promotes this odd notion of “independent leadership.” As to Kings, I am reminded of Shakespeare’s poor Richard II, who spoke so eloquently, but fell to his doom when he betrayed the structure that allowed him to be king, so even in that scenario, there is no “independent leadership.”

Amen!!
( Although I have essentially crafted a few cars by the sweat of my brow.)

Amen! Amen! Amen!
Love all of this so much. So fitting for Trinity Sunday!

It's only a matter of time in the ACNA.

Happy King of Kings Day!
Yes, amen!
