I found my calendar! 2024 might not be a total disaster. Hope springs eternal. On the other hand, I thought I would have already posted today, but was too distracted sifting through mounds of paper and books looking for my precious book that contains my whole life that I just couldn’t think what to blog about. On the third hand, I’m trying to write about Pope Francis, but every time I finish a paragraph Matt sends me another article or tweet. Couldn’t all those lovely quarreling Catholic people stop writing and tweeting for just a few minutes so that I might assemble my thoughts?
On the other hand—how many hands can a person have, do you suppose?—I had a bit of a sniff over this tweet by Bendell Werry, whose posts I generally enjoy. In this case, I thought he was too cynical. Here’s a pic since I can’t embed anything:

Perhaps they aren’t as well known as they should be. Just because a lot of men are cowardly, doesn’t mean that all men are.
Second—I know he’s not talking about me because he doesn’t know who I am—no one can see the future, of course, so perhaps every single prominent woman will go woke in 2024, but I really doubt it. I will put five cents down (the most I am ever willing to bet) that there will be a few beleaguered conservative women still shouting in the void by the end of the year. I say this conceding that it has been awfully discouraging to watch so many people—male and female—who seemed to reside under the umbrella of orthodox Christianity decide to chuck it all so that Kristin du Mez will not accuse them of being literally Doug Wilson. A lot of people who I once read, and who seemed both humble and sincere, since 2016 have floated by me in the rushing currents of progressivism. There was this sort of brief moment where a lot of people agreed on a lot of things, but then the hot dry wind of Trumpism blew away the clouds and the affection was lost almost before it had ever been felt, certainly before true Christian charity had grown.
