Well, try not to worry. 2024 isn’t over yet. We have a lot of days to go before we can put this horror show to rest. This year, along with constant reminders that the word of the moment is Cesspool of Incompetence, I’m going to keep track of all my accomplishments. Like, I just finally nailed down my draft about Pope Francis and Fiducia supplicans. Also, I did a load of laundry.
But enough about me, let’s talk about other women doing things. Apparently, the forthcoming movie “Ray” is going to be directed by someone who likes to make “men uncomfortable” when watching her movies. I scrolled past some clips on X and then wandered over to YouTube to find some other commentary. This one struck me as lots more likely than sheer misandry, or whatever it is called when you just hate men—Disney, one might say, is exhibit one of a Cesspool of Incompetence:
Weirdly, if you watch the men being uncomfortable clip, and then watch the video right there, you might, like me, wish that all the Disney executives who are so bent on making all of us feel uncomfortable would accept the feeling for themselves. See, I don’t want to be pedantic or anything, but Disney very much lost the game when they imagined their one job was to instruct the American (and worldwide) movie-going public on how to be a good person. That’s the trouble, you think you’re just going to the movies to escape from the ennui of being human in a Post-Enlightenment Post-Liberal Age where you have to decide for yourself who you are, but all the people in the offices and on the sets producing those movies think that their job is never to let you escape the existential dread for even just one moment. There is no escape, for that would mean that you might stop thinking about yourself for just a minute and then you might forget to buy some of their wretched merch to mitigate against the darkness.
