I'm a bit confused about the Bible verse that was quoted at the beginning. Why exactly did God empower the Chaldeans who apparently want to destroy everything?
It’s from Habbukuk. And it’s the strange, but very biblical doctrine whereby God uses evil to punish evil. I’ve seen pastors describe how the only world power strong enough to destroy Hitler’s Germany was Stalin’s communist Russia. There again, God used evil to punish and stop other evil…
If Stalin had arisen a decade earlier, his aggressive totalitarian policies could have achieved world domination. Same for fascist Germany. But the fact that they arose simultaneously meant they destroyed each other. We found out in 1991 that the steel curtain was actually set up to hide from the rest of the world how desperately weakened Russia was by WW2. They’d suffered a mortal wound yet limped on 46 more years due to hiding behind the Steel Curtain
Egypt, Assyria/Chaldea, and Babylon rose and fell to accomplish God's purposes of disciplining and renewing of Israel. The words of the prophets predicting the consecutive disciplines and restorations of Judah and Israel testified to those generations about God's holiness and faithfulness. I'm inclined to think that the recent Church of England action will increase the ambivalence and tension within the ANCA on similar matters.
