How I Don't Have Time To Recolonize The Mainlines
My cruel, patriarchal, unkind husband made me listen to this podcast episode yesterday, mostly because he didn’t want to suffer alone, but also because he is cruel and patriarchal. I generally enjoy the Aaron Renn Podcast, and, actually, this episode wasn’t bad, it was just triggering. If you like, give it a listen. Renn interviews Redeemed Zoomer, a person who plays Minecraft, as one does, and talks about the church over on the YouTubes. Redeemed Zoomer’s plan is to rescue the mainlines from their theological rot through spiritual reconquest—a noble aspiration for sure.
The only problem is that this young gentleman dared to encroach onto the territory that Matt and I have inhabited for many a long year—the tiny world of the Anglicans—and he said a few things that betrayed his profound ignorance, which made me wonder if he knew what he was talking about in other ecclesial spheres.
His argument went a little like this—the mainlines are completely infected, BUT, the people who go to them are going to die soon, so all you have to do is re-evangelize those dying congregations and take their buildings and institutions back for Jesus. It will be barely an inconvenience, but also, it will take a long time and require hard work, strategizing, and networking with his Reconquista Movement.
