Phew. It’s Friday after all. Let’s see if we can rustle up some takes.

One

The faint aroma of skunk still hangs about the air. This cute little guy

sprayed our dog, Posie (short for Posiedon), in our back garden yesterday evening. At first I didn’t know what had happened. I was laboriously strewing laundry from the washer to the dryer when the wave washed over me. I looked down at all the towels in my hand and began to gaslight myself. Did I actually wash them? Why do they suddenly smell so powerfully wrong? Had I gone mad? But then the shriek of the stupid little dog came to my ears and the offender—who was really no more than a baby—wandered out from the cover of my day lilies.

We lathered him—the dog not the skunk—with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda last night, which helped, but More Will Have To Be Done. It’s going to be a long weekend of washing many things and feeling very annoyed. To bad those little babies are so cute and there are so many of them. They’re all over the place, disoriented, ready to fly off the handle at any moment.

Two

Super sad to hear about the death of Bob Newheart. Haven’t we suffered enough this year?

This is my favorite, and one I employ in every day life when my offspring start telling me about their problems, especially with each other. Stop Being Such a Big Baby:

As usual, when I break out into this clip, because I have it almost completely memorized, my children have no idea of its source because I have so profoundly neglected their cultural education. I think some long hours in front of YouTube are ahead of us.

Three

The Internet is so amazing. Matt’s post about how he has four daughters and has spent 1/3 of his fatherly life watching the six-hour version of Pride and Prejudice has over 3.4 million views, 4 thousand reposts, 97 thousand likes and I don’t even know how many comments. And what I most want to say is, the angle of that photograph does not even begin to do justice to my living room. If I could have had any say—which I didn’t, not knowing that any phone was being bandied about—I would have tidied up. At the very least, I would have altered the lighting.
